Four Things to Look for When Hiring Someone to Take Family Portraits

If you are looking for a professional to take newborn portraits, family portraits or other big photoshoots, it is easy to become stressed. After all, there are dozens of options out there, so how do you know if you’re choosing the right one? We’ve put together a guide to four things you should look for in a family photographer.

  • A Vibrant Portfolio - A photographer’s portfolio is one of the most important assets he or she has. Check out some of the shoots that have been done in the past and see if any of the photos match what you’re looking for. Not only can you learn about the photographer, but you may get some good ideas about what you’d like your shoot to be like too.

  • Social Media Presence - Is the photographer you are considering active on social media. While this isn’t a requirement, you can certainly learn a lot about a photography business by looking at what they have to say on social media as well as how they interact with current, potential and former customers.

  • Good Reviews - Online reviews on Google, Facebook and Yelp are a good signifier of the type of service you will receive. Check out any reviews (good and bad) to find out what you might expect from a photographer.

  • Friendly Service - A photographer should be more than willing to chat with you about his or her experience, ideas for your shoot and to answer any questions you may have. Good customer service is an important part of being a great photographer.
